Villa del Balbianello

Villa del Balbianello is located in Lenno, at the tip of the Lavedo peninsula, a wooded promontory extending into Lake Como called “Balbianello” after the villa’s name. Thanks to this extraordinary location, the view from the villa is absolutely breathtaking.
F.A.I. (the Italian National Trust).
The property includes two square shaped buildings and a loggia with a spectacular view over the gulfs of “Venere” and “Diana”. A graceful pier with stairway leads from the lakeshore up to the garden.
However, the real highlight of this property is its panoramic terraced garden, overlaid with grass, hedges, cypress and chestnut trees. The limited area of the peninsula did not allow for establishing a true English or Italian garden, although the lawn is indeed marked with geometrical precision by laurel and boxwood hedges. The garden of Balbianello is consequently highly distinctive: everything is about the lake and its shores, with nothing diverting attention from the water itself.
The garden loggia is situated at the centre of the peninsula’s tip, representing the true architectural invention of Balbianello: in fact, its location parallel to the peninsula allows for the simultaneous view of both the Tremezzina landscape – the very heart of the lake – and of the Comacina island.

The villa can be visited from mid-March to mid-November.
